My Christmas

As you may have noticed I basically took an unofficial winter break! We spent a merry holiday away from home for a few days where we enjoyed time with the little ones, their parents as well as my mom and dad.

dsc_0341We arrived on Sunday and got the girls settled in at my folks house, then headed to Osama and Jacki’s.img_3608

Aiden and Bennett opened their gifts and so did Alayna. The boys insisted on helping with construction of their tee-pee and Alayna showed more interest in helping than playing with her stuffed animal. Who can blame her?

Auntie Foof and Uncle Ben showed up with more gifts and soon after Great Grandma and Grandpa came with the girls. Siblings hung out and then it was time to cook.img_3409 Fattima, Sumaya and Deeja all helped their brother with his food preparation while I took my place on the comfy couch playing with the precious little ones.

The meal was amazing; perfectly steamed chicken that was finished with a pan frying to crisp it up, topped with a light sauce, homemade pasta and a crisp flavorful salad, yumm! Of course Jacki was in the kitchen helping, watching her babies and interacting with this lively group!

I’d like to say identical twins are no match for Gaga but they do keep me on my toes! Meanwhile Alayna is in the thick of things making her presence known!dsc_0438

The next day we went out to grab donuts and coffee and the day of Christmas eve began!

After the babies were snugly tucked into bed, Santa came and delivered their gifts.img_3554

Santa and her helpers were quite good at their job and once again I relaxed and watched it all unfold.

When morning came I heard the boys talking, then Daddy and Mom went in to get them and the fun began!

Numerous photos were taken but it was obvious that this would be a challenging effort and we decided “real” was better anyway!dsc_0500

Gifts were both practical and fun, children were grateful and parents exhausted. The next stop was Great Grama and Grampa’s on our way out of town. Brunch was served along with more gifts.

As always it was a memorable event!dsc_0515

Happy new year!

Blogging put on hold

Almost two weeks ago I received the honor of having three special guests arrive!

I was confident that it would be quite easy to keep up with my friends in blogging world and of course there were many photos and stories to share!

After all, Grama had a special helper this time who agreed to spend her days changing diapers, playing games, chasing twins through the house and caring for a little princess.

Cooking, baking and crafts commenced as the three little babies were snug at Grama’s house. Meanwhile Mother and Father were off on a family adventure that had been planned for a year. They were now sad about leaving their babies but were assured that everything would be fine! img_8643

Days were spent laughing, cooking, baking and doing crafts, all with their aunts and uncles.

Days ticked by until the first little one got a stomach virus, followed by his brother, then his aunt (the helper) and eventually his youngest uncle. Grama tended to sick babies, scrubbing and wiping. Care was given in the form of hugs, fluids and watchful eyes. At last everyone seemed well and low and behold six days had quickly passed. Plans to go to the science center, play place and other Christmas events had been dashed. Auntie Fon Fon and her trusty helper Ben managed a trip to a local town hosting a Christmas extravaganza.

Mom and Dad sent photos of their out and about time

Grama and Alayna were home alone and so it was time for a photo shoot.

Auntie Fon Fon took the boys to a local play place that proved to be total fun and will be a destination in the future.

Meals were eaten at their new table

Babies were tucked into bed

And finally day nine arrived and it was time to say goodbye. Mommy and Daddy finished their adventure.

Bags were packed, wash was done and final moments were shared.

Blogging had long since been given up on and Grama was sure that everyone would understand. Special moments like these don’t come around all the time.IMG_3229

Happy holidays everyone!IMG_20181202_101320

Babysitting, birthdays and family

This past weekend was spent traveling to Spokane, celebrating my youngest daughter’s birthday and babysitting. Osama and Jacki took a little trip that had been planned months before and then forgotten. With their busy life I can see where it would easily be brushed aside! Foof decided she would babysit and I agreed to help her for part of the time. My younger children went with their oldest sister out shopping, to dinner for the birthday girl and in the end they stayed in a comfy hotel. Meanwhile we did crafts, made a fort and watched the usual movies.

Later that night Ben arrived to help and I retired to my room where the boys both tucked me in and Aiden showed me his Halloween costume.

The next morning the kids came from the hotel, bringing coffee and some breakfast sweets. We decided to leave soon after so that the kids could get home at nap time. We drove in to see Great Grama and Grampa who had purchased a cake for the birthday girl. img_0792Both of my parents and my sister, were excited that the kids made a surprise visit.

Gifts were opened and then cake was served, all of which the kids enjoyed taking part in.

We discovered that Alayna does like carrot cake and insists on feeding herself! She has also become a strong little girl even at this age. Watching her deal with her brothers gives me insight into my own daughters. None of them will let their brothers, from the oldest to the youngest, get away with anything!

I wondered where this sweet little baby would fit in among identical twins, but it is easy to see she truly is the boss!

I hope you had a fun and relaxing weekend as well.  Here’s to a great week ahead!

Ring bearers play

During the ceremony the boys got restless and could not resist playing with their fans just behind where the wedding party stood. They rolled, jumped and eventually took off their suspenders. Everyone agreed it was a precious part of the wedding.44100016_2119209785008578_8509104480015351808_n44274932_2119209811675242_5805971356629598208_n

Grama’s staycation

Last week at this time we were preparing to leave and head to the First Princess birthday party. We brought the kids back with us that afternoon and started our five day stint as babysitters! I wasn’t sure how the kids would react when they were buckled into their car seats in our van, but they were fine and so we started our road trip on the back roads of Idaho.

Hundreds of photos were taken from the back seat! Aiden took a tiny nap while Bennett and Alayna played and babbled. It was a gorgeous blue sky day for both parts of the trip.img_1056 (1)

When we arrived home, remote control doggies were waiting for each boy and some baby toys for Alayna. Fattima and Ben ordered pizza and came to help with the kids. The next day Ben took the boys out to walk their dogs.IMG_1899My children at home were a huge help as always and there was definitely no shortage of laughter, playing and the odd fight here and there!

My kids went back to school and the weekly routine quickly turned to chaos. It is something I was used to when my children were small but I am much older now and that was evident from day one!

We made cookies (frozen kind) and lots of pasta!

Naps, diapers and play time all seemed to melt together until Thursday came and life returned to it’s normal routine. No more fingerprints on the t.v. screen and slider, toys are neatly tucked away and stored and today I will cook grown up food. It is strange and somehow familiar, this feeling of sadness and missing them. There is also a part of me that is eager to go to the bathroom alone and take a daily shower again!  I love you Aiden, Bennett and Alayna, thanks for the staycation!

Princess birthday

It is hard to believe that Alayna is already turning one. This week the feisty, beautiful little princess will start a new phase of life and we are blessed to watch it unfold. On Saturday we made our way over to Osama and Jacki’s where family and friends gathered to celebrate this occasion. img_1101.jpgGuests arrived and placed presents on the counter while the boys played with balloons and Alayna practiced walking.

Meanwhile Daddy spent his time in the kitchen preparing homemade pasta for his little girl. This is one of her favorite things to eat and he decided from scratch was best!

IMG_E1096IMG_E1112The pasta was a big hit and soon afterwards cake was served.

IMG_E1171Everyone was in a celebratory mood and it was evident that the party was a big success

Happy birthday dear PrincessIMG_0604

Bridal party

The power of two

People talk about twins and most of us have probably heard about the unique bond that they share. I never really knew much about this until I became the mommom to twin Grandbabies.  They are like all children in that they are adorable, innocent and leave you awestruck! But there is of course something different and inexplicable. IMG_9214

The way they play and communicate through a simple gesture or one word is so much fun to watch and to decipher.  At this point they refer to each other as brother in nickname form. They fight like all siblings do and then all is forgotten within a short time.

The main thing that shouldn’t surprise me but always does is their personalities. They are total opposites and it is easy to tell them apart by their smile and facial expressions. Recently one of the boys smiled and looked just like his brother and I remarked “Wow you look so much like your brother” and I was shocked with the realization that they do indeed look just alike. To us they are so different in every way.IMG_9221

Becoming a parent was life changing for me and now being a Grama is double the fun!

Cuddle bug days

This is our last week babysitting the kids! For the past couple of  weeks we have been making the two hour drive and staying four days, then home for three. This time it will be shorter and then we are back to routine.

It is amazing to be part of their lives

To see their kind hearts

And their beautiful souls

Those days

Naptime, selfies, a cuddle bug day

Sweet dreams and ice cream I wish we could stay

Carefree are moments when I am with you

Dance party, touch your head, sticky fingers too

Young people, infants, we all grow up

Wipe the floor, turn the page don’t spill your cup

Look back remember deep inside your mind

Hold it close and treasure it won’t be hard to find

Love you, Gaga

Precious

We arrived home from the beach and a few days later started three weeks of babysitting for our precious ones!

Daddy makes waffles with the boys

Fun at the park!

It is a unique experience to watch these babies grow, learn and develop! A whole different perspective is gained as a grandparent.
