Family time with friends
Happy Monday everyone! Here is to a healthy, safe and peaceful week!
The Palouse remains the same except for fields that signal an impending blanket of snow that will replace wheat and canola. Pristine blue skies and trees draped with gold, red and orange dot the picturesque little town where we reside. Temperatures have dropped into the 40’s and 50’s and my phone weather-app forecasts snow on Saturday. The big old tree in our front yard just started turning yellow and now grass can barely be seen by freshly raked leaves.
I love Friday nights and the anticipation of a weekend that might lead us anywhere. I am a planner, a list maker and organizer but having 9 kids means learning to accept all possibilities and planning becomes tentative at best. I can easily embrace spontaneity and look forward to the love and chaos of our large family.
This weekend was beautiful on the Palouse, we woke to a thin layer of fog and rolling hills marked by a portait like sunrise.
We were blessed to have Foof and B around almost the entire weekend. They made burgers for us on Saturday and Fattima made individual chocolate lava cakes that she wanted to try. She also made an old favorite that we have been meaning to post for two years! She promises to get the recipe written and a post will soon follow. Little homemade buns, cream cheese or feta inside, baked to a golden brown, topped with a light Middle Eastern syrup. Everything was delicious. We watched movies, football and basically laughed and played all weekend.
Saleeha was off to see Alayna, she could not get time off of work to head over there earlier so she went Friday and came back Sunday.
Sunday was spent getting groceries, picking up from our movie night and cooking dinner. It has been quite a while since I made Cous Cous, maybe a year or more. I felt confident and made it all by myself with a little taste testing from Soos. I then surprised everyone and popped fresh cream puff shells out of the oven, D and Soos filled and completed them. I felt proud that I had jumped over this hurdle and was able to cook for my family.

The day was spent watching more football, other visitors came and went and then the house was silent. It was a weekend full of family, friends, laughter and food.
I love these photos of your beautiful family. They make reading aobut what you went through to get them bearable. How you have reaped the harvest!!!

Congratulations on creating a masterpiece meal for your family, Lyn! That’s so satisfying…and I am now thinking, “Cream puffs…”
It is cold here, too–mid-forties and my morning walk was a red-cheeker, but I love this time of year. Unfortunately, the big tree in our front yard is still greedily holding on to most of its leaves…we’ll be raking in December in Ohio…
Have a wonderful week!

The boys love their sister and seem very gentle with her. Cream puffs – oh my – it’s lunch time and I could just eat one or two of those instead of soup 🙂

It looks like you had a lovely weekend of food, family, and fun! The food all looked delicious. The cream puffs remind me of the Almond Cream Puffs I used to make. It has been a long time since I have made them. Yours looked over the top delicious!

sorry I messed up and hit send somehow! I also loved that you felt confident enough to cook and surprised everyone with puffed pastry shells to be filled! Those looked over the top delicious! I wish we had the ability to send one over the internet! Like my missing flying car the 21st century just hasn’t quite lived up to what I had expected or hoped it would be on that score, but spending time with family and friends…it doesn’t matter what decade, era, or century we’re in. That will always be the best way to spend time! xx

Nice! The most beautiful memories are the ones made with friends and when shared over a meal it becomes all the more special. Please check out this post about how friends make life so incredibly beautiful: https://columntribe.wordpress.com/2017/10/23/a-break-from-everyday/
