I know! the first one was quite huge but others are pretty average. My sister has two houses that were combined, maybe 10,000 square feet, not strange at all!
In saudi things are BIG! most things they do big. Even in Mecca now many are really unhappy because what used to be very traditional is now BIG!Huge hotels with views of the Kabbah and you feel like you are in a movie star place haha
It’s most interesting to see the different styles – all of them quite ornate and fussy but each one different from the next. I could sit and look for hours, all the while deciding which one I would choose if I had to have one 🙂
Well the average person does not make much money. But there are tons of very rich people or it seems that way. Also there are families that are rich from years back maybe when oil came along, they have passed it down and many fathers buy homes or have them built for their kids!
Even 30 years ago, Dubai was studded with totally over the top houses. Great to see! There was even one that was totally black and another that was totally round, like a cake!
Wow – who actually lives in these houses Lynne? Are they rich oil Sheiks?
Distribution of wealth is very disproportionate I think judging by other pictures that you have posted
Are you Ok taking photos of other people’s houses out there?
That huge one must be a very rich person but the others are just more average people. Of course they must have money but people spend years building a home and it might not be done until they save money for each part. I have been to many huge homes and they were people that I don’t think were so wealthy, obviously they had money but not oil sheik types! My sister has two homes put together- a huge huge home.
Wow! That first one is a house? Sometimes when we are on vacation and we drive by mansions on the beach (many of them just winter or vacation homes) I ask myself, “What do these people do for a living?” Nice photos Lynn!
I honestly do not know. I feel looking back I was a “good deal” a work horse, from a good family (important in arab culture) and a person who he could intimidate easily and a nice package that he could use. As soon as I left, he easily moved on to another person with little thought.I never felt like a real person.
And he has no idea what he lost! Just like Charley’s ex who tossed him aside when she found a professor who could get her into academia. Two of the nicest people on this earth! You both are better off without your exes. Really!
I like the soft touch to the colors. The houses remind me of houses located in the Northern part of my country where i grew up. They build big houses like the ones in your pictures with very high walls.
I can never see enough gorgeous houses! 🙂 One of my good friends has just moved to Saudi with her husbands work… lots of stunning photos. How I wish I could say house number five was my holiday home! 😛 😀 Thanks for sharing – hope you find some more to post! 🙂
Some of these look very grand, Lynn! They must belong to very rich people – especially that first one. The pink one seems to be the odd one out, both in size and colour. It looks as though there are two houses there? And bright pink just doesn’t seem very Saudi -ish! 😀
The pink one really stands out.
