This is clearly not any kind of authentic recipe but just my own version of spaghetti. My kids love this and I am posting it so I can put it in with my recipes. I have been making this for the past 20 years.
Ingredients
1/2 Pound Ground beef
1 onion -chopped
3 cloves garlic- chopped
Sauce ingredients
2 -28 ounce cans crushed tomatoes
1- 8 ounce can tomato paste
1- 8 ounce can tomato sauce
1 spaghetti spice mix-optional
1 tsp. basil
1/2 tsp. oregano
1 cup water
1 Tbs. sugar
1/8 cup Parmesan cheese
1 package spaghetti
Directions
Fry ground beef in a pan with chopped onions and garlic.
Cook ground beef Β until well done. Put all sauce ingredients (except: sugar, Parmesan cheese and spaghettiΒ )into a crock pot and whisk. Add the beef mixture and stir well. Turn crock pot on and cover. Let sauce simmer for several hours. Of course all crockΒ pots have different temperatures and heat will vary so use your own judgement regarding temperature settings. This can also be cooked in a large pan on the stove.
In the last few minutes of cooking, add sugar and Parmesan cheese, mix in well.
Cook spaghetti, drain. Ladle sauce over cooked spaghetti.
I love so spaghetti, so I thank you for posting this π

I love this kind of meal and it is making me wish I had some comforting pasta dish to eat tonight. Never heard of spaghetti spice mix?

ok like a packet mix in with the spices, it can be found with taco mixes and bouillon, not necessary just optional, I like to put it in for extra flavor

Great idea – I add a dried chili mix to one of my chili recipes – actually the recipe comes from a former chef of Oprah.

I make mine almost identical, I never measure but it looked about the same. I had a bit more oregano and I also add parsley.
I smiled when I saw the sugar.
Mom taught me to make spaghetti and she always added a little vinegar to the sauce and then shortly after she mixed that in she would add the sugar.
Somehow it just worked.
Now I am hungry for spaghetti and Guess what: I can’t even make it. No tomatoes except for some Romas for salads. No tomato anything.
We were down to nothing in our cabinets. Now it is impossible to stock back up.
I tried to convince Danny of that.
Now getting back off of here before I stay all day.
I am trying to catch up elsewhere.
Love Sarah

Thank you for sharing, Lynn! I’ve wanted to try making the sauce from scratch for awhile now. I’m sure it tastes better than the store bought one. We don’t really like onions in my house so maybe I will just use big chunks of onion for the flavor.

I love that you added sugar to your sauce. It’s a tip that I got long after I perfected (I thought) my sauce. It removes some of the acidity. I do that for all tomato sauce recipes now. βΊ

Looks nice and simple – maybe not quite as simple as your alfredo, but what is? I’ll have to try this sometime when my normal sauce (i.e., the jar) is nowhere to be found!
