Snickerdoodles

My Aunt Kristine used to make two things I remember so well, Whoopie Pies and Snickerdoodles. She lived about 6 hours away and we saw her once a year. This annual trip meant lots of Whoopie pies, which I will post about later! But for now here is a recipe she gave me for Old Fashioned Snickerdoodles.

Ingredients

1/2 cup softened butter

1/2 cup shortening

2 cups sugar- 1 cup brown sugar and 1 Cup white sugar

2 eggs

1/2 tsp. cream of tartar

1/2 tsp. baking soda

3  cups flour

Mix to dip cookie dough in:

1/4 cup sugar mixed with 1 tsp. cinnamon more or less

Directions

Mix butter, shortening and sugar very well, add eggs and beat until fluffy, add other ingredients and mix well.

This dough works better if it is refrigerated for a little bit before making the cookies. It is a stickier dough.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Place sugar in a bowl and add cinnamon, stir to mix

Roll dough into balls and roll in cinnamon sugar mixture. Place on cookie sheet, space them because they do spread allot.

Bake for 10-12 minutes and remove from oven.

  2. I want an aunt like that! All we got was bread and butter with sugar sprinkled on the top – handed. Out a window. And we drank water from a hose. It’s a wonder I survived!

  7. Looks great Lynz! I noticed you didn’t use any baking paper, do the cookies stick to the tray? I’ve had disasters when I haven’t used baking paper in the past and now I use it every time.
